Thomas Hewitt, also known as Leatherface, is a fictional character and the primary antagonist in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre film series. He first appeared in the original 1974 film directed by Tobe Hooper.
The character of Leatherface is inspired by real-life killer Ed Gein. Thomas Hewitt was born in August 1910 and raised in a family of cannibals who lived in a remote area of Texas. He was mentally challenged and often wore a mask made of human skin to hide his disfigured face.
Throughout the series, Leatherface is depicted as a chainsaw-wielding maniac who kills his victims and wears their skin as masks. He is a member of a deranged family that includes his brothers, Drayton, Chop Top, Nubbins, and other relatives.
Leatherface has become an iconic horror movie villain, known for his brutal killings and terrifying appearance. He has appeared in numerous sequels, prequels, and remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise.
